Race for Life Nordic Walkers raise over £4000 for Cancer Research UK

Nordic Walking East London Essex took part in the Race for Life event for the second year running raising over £4,000 for Cancer Research UK!

After weeks of training, 27 ladies armed with their nordic walking poles toed the start line. Once the usual answers were given to the intrigued, such as ‘Yes, the poles do make you walk faster but also with less effort’ and ‘you’re also getting an upper body workout so in fact burning a lot more calories than ordinary walking’, we were able to settle into our stride.

The atmoshere was amazing, with over two and a half thousand women either running, walking or Nordic walking for one incredible cause. With so many being affected by this terrible disease, the camaraderie was astounding with everyone supporting each others efforts.

Every member of the Nordic walking team completed their own personal challenge, crossing the finish line with pride knowing that they had done something amazing! Many, Nordic walking faster and further than they had ever thought possible.

It was aptly summed up by one Nordic walker: ‘ I think it was an amazing effort by everyone; the dedication to the training, let alone actually doing it! I really enjoyed taking part and have a great sense of achievement!’

Nordic Walking East London Essex has exceeded its target to raise £2000 for Cancer Research UK – another incredible achievement!
