We held our first two night Nordic walking break in Rutland during the weekend of Friday 20th April 2012. Twelve Nordic walkers travelled 90 minutes up the M11 to reach the idyllic destination.
The hotel was ideally situated on the edge of Rutland Water with wonderful views of the Water from the double rooms and the restaurant. It was so relaxing to be able to look out over the view whilst enjoying the evening meal on the first night and breakfast each morning.
The rooms themselves were spacious and well kept. Every effort had been made to ensure that our stay was comfortable.
It was the perfect location for getting away from the business of life. The tranquility and beauty of Rutland’s countryside certaintly helped everyone to de-stress and unwind.
The walk to explore parts of Rutland Water on the Friday evening was re-energising and set the scene for the rest of the weekend’s walking. Saturday’s Nordic walk took us through 12 miles of beautiful countryside and charming villages full of character. We were blessed with sunshine which meant that we could experience dining alfresco in the tranquil gardens of a quaint village pub.
The weekend catered for everyone’s needs as there was the option of leaving the walk at this point to go off and do your own thing which one couple did. They headed off to explore the stunning town of Stamford, a 10 minute drive away.
By the time we had returned to the Hotel we were all feeling invigorated by our 12 mile walk and were revelling in a real sense of achievement.
Saturday evening’s meal was at an Italian Restaurant which was a 7 minute walk away. Our table looked out onto Rutland Water. This made for the perfect setting! The menu was extensive and the food delicious! Everyone had bonded by the end of the very first walk on Friday evening so it was a night filled with fun and laughter.
Sunday’s walking itinary included a 5 mile Nordic walk in the morning through some more beautiful countryside and a 5 miler around an Island village surrounded by Rutland Water. We had Sunday lunch in a charming little pub before heading off for the afternoon walk.
Again, people were able to choose bewteen completing both walks or just coming along to the morning or afternoon walk.
It was a fantastic weekend – in fact we didn’t want to leave!
Our first Nordic walking break was a huge success. We can’t wait to organise the next one……..! 🙂
Here’s what some of the Nordic walkers had to say about the Weekend……
I had a great weekend with Nikkii and the Nordic walkers! Lots of stunning views, good hearty food, lovely hotel and lots of laughs! Even though I didn’t know many people in the group, we all bonded and everyone had a good time. Feel invigorated after all the fresh air and exercise!
I’ll be booking up for the next weekend.
Thank you for organising the Rutland weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed it! For me it was the perfect tonic. Walking in such beautiful surroundings with the lake, fields, countryside etc completely recharged my batteries. Venue was great. Walks were just right and company was great.
John and myself enjoyed the weekend sorry (myself being the slowest) enjoyed the company felt everyone friendly and mixed well Hotel good, room and views excellent, enjoyed the walks well done to all with map reading and working out distances timings etc Thank you Nikkii if you organise another we would be interested again.
I really enjoyed my first Nordic Walking weekend at Rutland Water and will definitely do it again. The whole weekend was well planned and it was lovely to go away and have some time out from life! The hotel was really nice and the company was really good. Everyone got on really well and there were lots of laughs along the way. I particularly enjoyed the Sunday afternoon walk with the lovely views of Rutland Water and even walking in the rain was fun. Nordic Walking is the only sport I have ever enjoyed and stuck at for any length of time and my aim is to increase the time I spend Nordic walking, if I can. Thank you for arranging a lovely weekend, and we really appreciated the time and effort you put into organising the walks and the hotel.
